It is not groundbreaking news that Google have deep desires to infiltrate, dominate and essentially own the education industry, and according to this article it seems that they are succeeding. I use Google products at work and i hate them. Clunky, unintelligible platforms that seemingly haven’t been thought out properly. Google seems to have amazing ideas that are truly innovative, but are rarely executed convincingly. Whether it is a marketing problem or an inability to complete applications and programs adequately, Google still haven’t sold their holistic approach to me. On the other hand, the lesser of two evils (Google’s modus operandi is ‘Don’t be evil’) Apple have no such problem developing and executing quality products.
One thing that irks me about this whole thing is we as Librarians and educators are willingly giving over our institutions to these corporate giants.
